Reading all the news is depressing.
At least I can find some escape in unnecessary car shopping and video games

There’s a developing ebola outbreak in the Congo. Small numbers, but fun times.

Lemme list off all the things that could happen this year:
Yellowstone explodes.
Trump declares martial law somehow, and gains dictatorship power.
China declares war on America.
Russia declares war on America.
North Korea blows itself up.
Japan gets taken over by neo-fascists.
Canada hurts itself in its confusion.
Mexico becomes peaceful after the cartels all kill each other off.
A Civil War explodes in America.
A local war explodes between China and India.
Africa hurts itself in its confusion five times in one month.
The United Kingdom stares at the world in befuddlement and says “nope, not wading into that shit.”
The EU tries to decide if they should do something, but ends up fighting each other. Again.
And the list could go on and on and on...

Don’t you mean Pakistan and India? Or did the PRC do something to piss off the Subcontinent that I’d forgotten about?

Trump declares martial law somehow, and gains dictatorship power.
I don’t think we’re that far from this. I don’t think he’ll be able to keep power if he’s voted down in an election (and I do think there will be an election, though the GOP seems super com mitted to disenfranchising voters), but it seems like we are at the point where he can do whatever he wants and the courts probably won’t check him. Even if they do, he can ignore them, and Senate won’t check him.
The EU tries to decide if they should do something, but ends up fighting each other. Again.
I think this has already happened (most recently with their response to the situation in Hong Kong) . And will probably happen again.
The rest seem not so likely. I would not be shocked to see another war between India and China at some point, but at the moment India is too weak to instigate it (and would prefer to attack Pakistan anyway), while China would no doubt prefer to take Taiwan before pressing their claims in India. Even though Mao’s timer on Taiwan has another 52 years left, I could see China invade Taiwan (I mean they couldn’t 50 years on Hong Kong, why would they wait 100 years on Taiwan?), but I can’t see the US going to war with China over Taiwan, especially with Trump running the show. Maybe they can do Taiwan this year and India in 2021? If you’ve already pissed off the world, they can’t really accumulate much additional meaningful opprobrium for additional war mongering.

In this age of optimism, i f most of those actually happened, I’d just shrug my shoulders and say “I should have seen that coming”.

Apparently Pine-Sol no longer has pine oil in it but it has some kind of pine-y scent still. I grabbed this because there was something else I was buying online from Walmart and I decided to check for disinfectant. Most stores around me have been almost completely cleaned out of the stuff for the past couple months. I didn’t quite realize just how big of a bottle I was getting myself. Whoops.

Oh man, I will be an empty nester this year too.
My mother is seriously ill.
For the first time in my life, I’m worried about my weight.
I started smoking again.
On the pleasant
side, I’ve been working non-stop and may be in really great financial shape by the end of the year.... maybe.

It always could sadly.
I told my buddy start of March that someone (likely USA or China) is going to start another war because of the impact of COVID. Now I thought it was going to be a year or two and country vs. country as is traditional. I didn’t imagine the ramp-up of Hong Kong annexation and what is transformed from years of digital skirmishes into full blown physical US civil war.
:(

Yes... yes it can get worse. If it’s one thing you can count on when it comes to Donald Trump, is to find a way to make things even more worse... and be even more of a dotard than you ever thought possible.

And with global warming, that island will be underwater in a few years.
Can you imagine a re-born Gilligan’s Island TV series where they end the series with the entire cast drowning because
the island went fully underwater
due to rising water levels?

I had some refill bottles of whatever I get at Whole Foods, I haven’t had to resupply. Early on I also ordered a box of those huge 12" toilet paper rolls for buildings and I’m not even halfway through them.
